Moving away from home for studies is exciting, but finding a PG in a completely new city comes with its fair share of struggles. While PG’s promise comfort, convenience, etc, many students end up facing a lot of troubles. From food complaints to strict rules, these issues can affect your overall experience. But most of these issues can actually be solved if you know what to look for. Here, we'll go through the top complaints students usually have about PGs and a practical way to solve them.
Poor food quality
Complaint – very bland, same menu, and unhygienic cooking. Solution – Ask the PG to send the menu in advance, check reviews, and, if possible, request a meal trial.
Lack of cleanliness
Complaint – dirty washrooms, unclean area, and dusty rooms. Solution – Opt for that PG that offers daily or weekly housecleaning services.
Space Crunch and Overcrowding
Complaint – no space in the room, cupboards are really small. Solution - Always visit in person and check the room size. Opt for double/triple sharing instead of 4–6 beds if you value privacy.
Noisy environment
Complaint - Roommates or neighbours playing loud music or being on late-night calls. Solution – Discuss rules regarding this issue beforehand with the owner.
Water and electricity issues
Complaint - Irregular water supply, power cuts, or extra charges for electricity. Solution - Clarify what’s included in rent. Choose PGs with backup power and proper water facilities.
Security concerns
Complaint - Lack of CCTV, absent guards, or unsafe locality. Solution - Choose PGs with proper security measures. For extra safety, use door locks and share live locations when returning late.
Staying in a PG comes with challenges, but most of these can be solved with coordination and clear communication. Before finalizing, students should check reviews, visit in person, and clarify rules. A little research in advance can save months of frustration later.
